Jau no seniem laikiem Engure ir bijis svarigs zvejas ostas ciems. Veca osta bija dabiga osta upes griva, kas izveidojas Melnupei (saukta ari Vecupe) iztekot no Engures ezera un ietekot jura. Lai nosusinatu muižnieku plavas un laukus, 1842.gada izraka Mersraga kanalu, lidz ar to udens limenis Melnupe pazeminajas par 4 metriem un veca osta vairs netika izmantota. 1875. gada Engure atverta jurskola (šobrid likvideta). 1956.gada iesaka buvet maksligu ostu (pilniga izbuve nav pabeigta vel šobrid) un taja vareja ienakt zvejas kugi, kas zvejoja Atlantijas okeana. Šobrid Engures osta ir viena no septinam Latvijas mazajam ostam (tas platiba ir 26 hektari). Engure ir zvejas un jahtu osta un nodrošina zvejas flotes bazešanos un jahtu turismu. Osta ienak zvejas kugi, kas zvejo Rigas lici un Baltijas jura. Gada laika osta aizsere apmeram par 1 metru, lidz ar to veikta ostas akvatorija padzilinašana un šobrid osta var ienakt kugi ar 3,5 m iegrimi. Ostas teritorija atrodas 35 buves - SIA „Unda” zivju parstrades ceha komplekss (uznemumam pieder divi Baltikas tipa zvejas kugi; ražo vairak ka 50 zivju konservu veidu), notekudenu attirišanas ietaises, piestatnes, darbnica, noliktava, aptieka, uznemuma, kas nodarbojas ar jahtu buvi ekas (tiek buveti trimarani) un citas buves. Zivju parstrade, jahtu buve un jahtu turisms ir perspektivakie attistibas virzieni Engures osta ari nakotne.

In historic documents Engure has been mentioned in 1567, it was a large village then. It has been renowned for its port that was the basis for traditional fishing and sea-faring skills. In 1875 a navigation school was opened in Engure. The main occupation of the inhabitants still is fishing. The old port was a natural harbor in the mouth of the Melnupe river (also called Vecupe). It formed by the river flowing out of Lake Engure and running into the sea. The canal of Mersrags was dug out in 1842, in order to drain landlords' meadows and fields. Due to it, water level of the Melnupe decreased by about 4 meters, thus causing activities of the old port to cease. In 1956 the construction of an artificial port began, but was not completed. However, this unfinished port could be used by big fishing ships that worked in the Atlantic Ocean. At present the port is used by boats fishing in the Gulf of Riga and in the Baltic Sea. Every year the port gets choked with about 1 meter of sand. It is thus necessary to dredge it annually. There is a fish preserve factory "Unda" that exports its produce also to other countries. Engure port provides services for fishing boats and sailing boats. The port can be used by ships with a draught of 3.5 meters. In the port the company designs and builds yachts for export. Fish preserving, yacht building and tourism by yachts could be future businesses in the port of Engure.
