On May 1, 2000, President Bill Clinton, one of the most…
interesting presidents in our history, announced Selective
Availability (the scrambling of the satellite navigation
system)
would be ended.
On May 2, 2000, Selective Availability was archived; may it rest
in
peace forever.
On May 3, 2000, Dave Ulmer hid a bucket in the woods outside
Portland, Oregon and announced its location on USENET, posting
the
coordinates (N 45°17.459 W 122°24.800) in the
sci.geo.satellite-nav
newsgroup. The original stash was born.
Let’s get together to mark this
auspicious
occasion.
