ITA - Trastevere #1
Trastevere (in dialetto trasteverino: Trestevere) è il XIII rione di Roma; si trova sulla riva ovest del fiume Tevere, ovvero sulla riva di sinistra risalendo il corso d'acqua ed a sud della Città del Vaticano.
Il suo nome deriva dal latino trans Tiberim (al di là del Tevere), che era già il nome antico della regione augustea.
Al tempo delle origini di Roma (754-509 a.C.), la zona di Trastevere era una terra ostile che apparteneva agli Etruschi. Roma la occupò per poter sorvegliare il fiume da ambo i lati. In ogni caso aveva solo una importanza strategica, Roma non aveva interesse ad estendersi urbanisticamente su quel lato, infatti, Trastevere era collegato al resto della città solo da un debole ponte di legno, il ponte Sublicio.
In età repubblicana, le zone vicino al fiume si popolarono di quei lavoratori che avevano a che fare con il fiume, come marinai e pescatori, e ci fu una grande affluenza di immigrati orientali.
La considerazione della zona come parte della città inizia con l'imperatore Augusto, che divise il territorio di Roma in 14 regioni; l'attuale Trastevere era la quattordicesima ed era chiamata regio transtiberina. Tuttavia, tale regione era ancora al di fuori della città vera e propria, almeno fino all'imperatore Aureliano (270-275 d.C.), che fece estendere le mura per includere anche Trastevere, insieme al monte Vaticano.
Oggi Trastevere mantiene ancora il suo carattere grazie alle strade tortuose coperte di sanpietrini su cui si affacciano case popolari medioevali. La notte si riempie di persone, sia italiane che straniere, grazie alla ricchezza di ristoranti e pub per ogni fascia di prezzo.
La cache è posta vicino al ristorante Meo patacca ed alla basilica di Santa Cecilia che merita una visita per Il Giudizio Universale di Pietro cavallini del XIII secolo e per le cripte romane sottostanti, sfortunatamente non sempre visitabili.
Massima cautela per manipolare la cache i muggles sono ovunque!!!

Trastevere (in dialect: Trestevere) is the thirteenth district of Rome, located on the west bank of the Tiber River, or on the left side going up the river and south of Vatican City. Its name derives from the Latin trans Tiberim (beyond the Tiber), which was the ancient name of the region of Augustus.
At the time of the origins of Rome (754-509 BC), the area of Trastevere was a hostile land that belonged to the Etruscans. Rome decided to invade it only to be able to monitor the river from both sides. In any case had only a strategic importance, Rome had no interest in extending urbanistically
on that side, in fact, Trastevere was connected to the rest of the city only by a weak wooden bridge, the ponte Sublicio.
In the Republican era, the areas near the river were populated by workers who had to deal with the river, as sailors and fishermen, and there was a big increase of eastern immigrants. The area started to be considered part of the city with the Emperor Augustus, who divided the Roman territory into 14 regions, the present Trastevere was the fourteenth one and was called Regio transtiberina. However, this region was still outside the city, at least until the Emperor Aurelian (270-275 AD), who extended the city walls to include Trastevere, along with the Vatican Mount.
Today Trastevere still retains its character through the winding streets covered with cobblestones overlooked by medieval houses. In the night it is full of people, both Italian and foreign, thanks to the wealth of restaurants and pubs for every price range.
The cache is located near the restaurant Meo Patacca and close to the Basilica of Santa Cecilia, which is worth a visit for the Giudizio Universale by Pietro Cavallini of the thirteenth century and the Roman crypt underneath, unfortunately not always open to visitors.
