Geocache Description:

Come celebrate ten years of geocaching as part of a worldwide network of events! Please log early to let us know how many folks you're bringing and what you plan to bring.

When: Chris Greene Lake, Pavilion 1, 12:00 to . . .
What: Picnic meet and greet!

Ten years ago, on May 1, 2000, the U.S. Air Force switched off selective availability on the GPS system, making accurate satellite navigation available to everyone. Two days later, Dave Ulmer hid the first geocache in the Oregon woods. Ten years later, geocaching is over 1 million caches strong and has around 3 or 4 million active members!

For the tenth anniversary, we'd like to have a little picnic get-together. We'll be at Pavilion 1 at Chris Greene Lake, rain or shine. Come get together with local cachers! Bring a picnic basket and come on down.

As this is part of the 10 Years of Geocaching, we'd really love to see folks come out for this one. As an incentive, if we get enough people out for this one, we all get a new icon for the 10 Year Event. So come on out and be part of geocaching history! We'll bring charcoal and we'll have the big outdoor grill staked out if you want to cook something, we'll also have some ice and soft drinks for folks and some picnic basics: hamburgers, hot dogs, and condiments. (And a birthday cake!) Please take a look at the list below and let us know what you're bringing.

p.s. As BLMills points out, caches have gone missing in this park over the years, and it sure could use some more. We're going to be leaving Charlottesville this summer, so we can't hide any more, but we certainly encourage folks to place some more hides in the park!
