Guarding the Freeway Traditional Geocache
Snow_Dog: This one had a nice run but I don't work near here anymore and the area is kind of muggle prone. I came by to check and it is either gone or been placed where it is under the snow. Thanks to all who visited! [8D]

You want to know what this area looked like before the freeway went in? Drive north on 35W and get off at 31st St. Immediately look at the houses on your right. That’s what this area looked like. The houses were about that size, maybe a little closer together. The houses were close to the street so the front yards were very small. This was before Dutch Elm disease so there were lots of large trees arching the street; very shady. The Litho building was there, but it was a different company; I can’t remember what it was. The corner of 9th St. and 13th Ave., where the parking lot is now, was the Sabathani Baptist Church. The church building burned down and the congregation moved to south Minneapolis. There was a mom & pop grocery store on the west corner of 8th St and 13th Ave. The store and the houses were torn down when the Elliot Twins were put up. There was another mom & pop store on the west corner of 7th St. and 14th Ave. They had the best caramels. I can’t remember who made them but it wasn’t Kraft. Today that store would be floating in the air. Bethlehem Baptist had maybe 20% of the footprint we have now. Neither 7th St. nor 8th St. were one-way. The intersection of 8th St. and 13th Ave. had folding stop signs. During the week they were folded shut and you didn’t have to stop. Sunday mornings they were opened up and the intersection became a 4-way stop. Then I joined the army. When I came back it was all changed.
