Let’s clean up our City! Cache In Trash Out (CITO) is an
activity intimately tied to geocaching. While out there on a cache
hunt, we collect litter along the trails and properly dispose of
it. On certain days, we also participate in much larger clean-up
events that involve and benefit the larger community. Billings
geocaching group (BGCG.info) is again sponsoring Cache In Trash Out
Day. This year, our annual event, it will be on April 17, 2010 at
10am. Together, we make an enormous positive impact with just a
little joint effort. Cache In Trash Out Day is an opportunity for
geocachers to help clean up the parks and other cache-friendly
places throughout the world. Through our volunteer efforts, we help
preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources. Cache In
Trash Out Day is made possible each year by a partnership between
Groundspeak and the entire geocaching community, with support from
local businesses and other organizations. You can help by
volunteering for an existing cleanup event or by organizing within
our own community through our program. This initiative started in
2003, when geocachers around the world organized 67 cleanup events
in 5 countries and 28 States. There were 1180 unique logs posted
showing participation in these events, and hundreds more acted
locally in recognition of this important day. The events were such
a huge success that Groundspeak committed to carry on the
tradition.
It will be at Black Otter Trail which has been a popular site
for kids of all ages to play, neck, hike, drink, smoke, and leave
remnants of the fun they have had there for a long time. Currently
home of a couple of cache that was hidden as far back as March
2002, this cache site was one of the first ones placed in the
Billings area.
Billings parks and rec. have offered to help by providing and
picking up the bags of trash we collect.
I will be working on getting coffee and what ever I can (donuts)
from the local merchants for in the morning. We invite you to come
meet at this grave site. Bring plenty of drinking water and gloves
to pick up all kinds of trash at 10 AM on April 17th. After 2-3
hours of trash pick-up, we will adjourn to go caching and/or to
lunch. I have placed a request with a couple of local businesses to
donate funds or food items and We hope to recieve some donations
for a picnic and because of this I need a idea of how many people
to expect. Please log in early if you think you maybe able to
attend
please Come join us and meet fellow Geocachers!
