Geocache Description:

St Mary's - Blymhill

This cache is one of a series set at or near churches in the lovely surroundings of the Staffordshire countryside.

We’d like to thank The Washers for conceiving the idea with their Shropshire Church Gems series, and cannonedwards for extending the idea to the beautiful churches of Staffordshire.

There has been a church at Blymhill from a very early date, but the current church dates from the mid 14th century and is thought to be built on the site of the former chapel.

It is thought to have been built during the incumbency of Stephen de Bromley who was rector between 1349 and about 1379. There is an arched recess outside the south wall of the chancel (a position often occupied by the founders tomb) containing a weathered stone coffin that is thought to be Bromley's.

Significant alterations were made to the church in 1719 during which some gothic windows were replaced with newer style windows. The gothic windows were re-introduced in 1858-9 along with various other changes such as oak pews, a new font and a pulpit.

The Cache

The cache is situated a short walk from the church, down a scenic public footpath past some beautiful pools. We suggest you park near to the church and walk down from there. Please be careful not to block access when parking as the lanes do get used all the time around the church.

You are looking for a camo'd cylindrical container with a screw top lid.
