Sara Maude Kammerling was born on 1/20/1874 in Stark, NH. She graduated from New England Conservatory of music and afterward spent many years in Europe. When she returned, she taught school for awhile but then learned her fathers trade of lumbering, taking it over after his death. She married Gustav Kammerling, a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy and for awhile living on Rock Island on Lake Pennesseewassee in Norway. She then moved to Philadelphia but still came back to visit. She donated the Norway Memorial Library and it was furnished with her donations. She also bought the laboratory of C.A. Stephens and later gave that to the Central Oxford County Hospital Association which later became the original equipment of Stephens Hospital. She died on 3/28/1957.
