IGREJA DA LAPA

Erguida no monte de Germalde em Janeiro de 1755 a capela inicial era de pequenas dimensões. Nela era guardada a imagem de Nossa Senhora da Lapa e aqui vinham muitos penitentes sendo este o motivo pelo qual passou a chamar-se Capela de Nossa Senhora da Lapa das Confissões.

A planta do templo actual, em estilo Neoclassico demonstra a proliferação de colunas e frontões, começou a ser executada em meados de 178... ficando concluída a escadaria em 1826. No entanto a torre do lado poente concluiu-se em 1855 e a outra em 1863.

CORAÇÃO DE D. PEDRO IV

A singularidade deste templo reside no facto de nele estar guardado o coração de D. Pedro I, Imperador do Brasil que o doou ao povo portuense como prova de afeição e reconhecimento .

O túmulo que guarda tal relicário apresenta num lado a bandeira de Portugal e no outro lado a do Brasil ostentando ainda na parte superior as armas aspadas do Duque de Bragança .

O coração do Imperador e Rei de Portugal( D. Pedro IV) está cuidadosamente guardado num vaso de prata dourada gravado com duas inscrições, sendo a primeira em latim e a segunda em português. Das quais se transcreve:

« D. Pedro, Duque de Bragança, fundador da liberdade pública, seu doador e vingador havendo, por impulso da Divindade e com a sua grandeza de alma, aportado às praias do Porto e tendo ali, com o seu exercito e pela grande e quase incrível ajuda que lhe prestaram os Portuenses, vingando ao mesmo tempo e com justas armas, a Portugal, tanto de tirano que o oprimia como de toda a sua facção, elegendo o Duque, por isto mesmo, e ainda em vida, aquele lugar onde tão magnanimamente expôs a própria vida pela Pátria, para nela, depois da morte descansar o seu Coração, Amélia Augusta, amantíssima consorte do Duque, querendo, de boa vontade, cumprir o voto de seu Esposo, colocou, reverentemente, nesta urna, os despojos mortais do Coração de seu marido.»

A inscrição em português reporta-se a uma proclamação dirigida por D. Pedro IV ao povo Portuense, aquando da sua visita à Invicta em 1834:

«...Eu me felicito a mim mesmo por me ver no teatro da minha glória, no meio dos meus amigos Portuenses, daqueles a quem devo, pelos auxílios que me prestaram durante o memorável sitio, o nome que adquiri, e que honrado, deixarei em herança aos meus filhos.»
