Jane Austen Facts:
The first title chosen by Jane Austen for Pride and Prejudice
was First Impressions. One only needs to read the novel to
understand why that would have been a perfectly appropriate title.
The novel was originally published in three volumes. All of Jane
Austen's books were published anonymously and she received no
recognition while she was alive.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in
possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." And so
begins Pride and Prejudice. Below is a photograph of Burghley
House, the setting of Pride and Prejudice.
