LE CHEMIN DE HALAGE
Les premiers essais de halage par un engin mécanique remontent à 1873, les premières tentatives avec un engin à vapeur est mis en œuvre dans le Nord et le Pas de Calais de 1881 à 1889 sur un tronçon de 40 kms, en 1896 monsieur GAILLOT, ingénieur des ponts et chaussées, invente une locomotive routière à trois roues qui peut circuler sur un chemin de halage ; courant 1904 apparait une locomotive sur rails. La première concession est obtenue en 1907 avec une machine électrique entre BETHUNE et le BASSIN ROND longueur 80 kms. Dès 1924, les aménagements se succèdent, les principaux axes fluviaux dans le Nord Pas de Calais sont terminées.

The first trials of towing by a mechanical device go back up in 1873, the first tries with a stream device is implemented in the North and the Step of Calais from 1881 till 1889 on a section of 40 kms, in 1896 MISTER GAILLOT, engineer of bridges and roadways, invents a road engine in three wheels which can circulate on a towpath; some time in apparait 1904 a railway engine. The first concession is got in 1907 with an electrical machine between BETHUNE and the ROUND BASIN length 80 kms. From 1924, developments succeed one another, the main fluvial axles in the North Not of Calais are ended.
