Geocache Description:

Fraser Island has more than half the wold's perched lakes.
They are one of Fraser Islands superlative values for World Heritage listing.

Lake
McKenzie is one of these perched lakes. Which means it contains only rainwater, no groundwater, is not fed by streams and does not flow to the ocean. The sand and organic matter at the base of the lake form an impervious layer, preventing rainwater from draining away.

Sitting on top of compact sand and vegetable matter 100 metres above sea level. It has an area of 150 hectares.

The beach sand of Lake McKenzie is pure, white silica and is not only beautiful to look at but feels beautifully soft to walk on. It is possible to wash hair, teeth, jewelry, and exfoliate one's skin.
The sand acts as a filter, giving the water its clarity and helping to make the water so pure it can support very little life. The lake has very few nutrients and pH varies, though sunscreen and soaps are a problem as a form of pollution.

Fraser Island's vegetation is rich in tannins and other organic acids, which stain surface water in tines of rich red-brown to pale golden-yellow.

Look closely and you will see that even these darker waters are clean and free of mud and silt.

Following questions do have to be answered to claim this earthchache:

- How deep is the lake at the dark blue/black areas ?
- Why is Lake McKenzie's water colourless? and other lakes on Fraser Island are not?
- Add a picture of you or a personal item and at the Lake McKenzie to your online log. (one picture for every log)

Mail the answers of the above questions to the cache owner and upload the photo to your log.
