Geocache Description:

This is #3 in the Lookout Challenge series. Please be aware that these are extreme caches that require physical preparation as well maps and good navigating skills. Waypoints are only suggestions as there are many ways to access these caches. You have been warned! Also note that portions of this road system allow no motorized vehicles at certain times of year.

Abernathy Mountain Lookout was built in 1932 as fire lookout over the Abernathy Mountains. It was a 92 ft pole tower. In 1939 it was rebuilt as a treated timber tower with a 7 x 7 cabin atop. In 1951 it was once again rebuilt as a 40 ft wooden tower. It was abandoned in 1968 and today only the footings remain at the 2577 ft elevation. Bring your camera! Check out the benchmarks too.

FTF INFO
You may claim individual FTF’s for each cache, However, there is a Lookout Challenge series FTF prize for the first cacher to COMPLETE ALL FIVE CACHES. To claim your series FTF prize sign each log and record the letter in the lid of each cache and identify which cache lid has no letter at all.
