How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

The cache is a smallish, lunchbox type container which is big enough to hold a few small swaps and a TB or geocoin.

This cache is best done as a "cache and dash" on the way from Ayrshire to Glasgow, or vice versa. Ample roadside parking is available at spaces on Old Mearns Road just before joining, or leaving, the A77. No need for a parking waypoint!

The cache is placed close to a monument to writer Robert Pollok (1798-1827) who was born in nearby Eaglesham. His most famous work was "The Course of Time". This statue to him was unveiled in 1900. Loads more can be found at Portal to the Past or Electric Scotland.

The cache is close to the old A77. Still operational, but mainly replaced by the brand spanking new M77.

Near the junction is a red house that Mrs ST remembers as a tea room (with the words "Tea Room" in big white letters on the roof). Apparently, you knew you were nearly home when you saw this tea room. It was, however, the days of horses and carts........

Why the name "Davie's Pineapple"?

Well, Mrs ST's late grandfather, Davie, always referred to this monument as "The Pineapple" (due to the thing on the top) and never failed to pass on how in awe he was of the man. Davie used to enjoy telling the story of how Robert Pollok walked to Glasgow University from Loganswell and back daily in an effort to study there!

Davie would have loved the idea of Geocaching and would have been very proud of having a wee container named after him and his pineapple!
