Fairview Safecracker Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

rvstauff: Locked ammo can is gone. The point of this cache is gone (cracking the code).

The lock-n-lock is still there, somewhere. I will try to pick it up to avoid geotrash (or leave it there for future geo-archeologists finding caches of the past).

Geocache Description:

Ammo can in the woods in Mint Hill Park on Fairview. ***Read full description below... One clue is half missing due to natural destruction. The first number is still there of the first clue. The second half of the clue is "6". So, if you find a 2, for example, the clue is 26.***

***Please read the entire description before attempting!***

This cache may take a while! Average time just under an hour. Do not attempt if you cannot take the time. You will want to bring along a notepad!

The trick of this cache is not finding the ammo can, the trick will be OPENING the ammo can. The ammo can itself is hidden in a very traditional manner. To claim a find, your name must make it on the log!

DO NOT force anything. Do not bring pry bars, acetylene torches, bolt cutters, explosives, or any other aggressive tools to open the cache. It will become very obvious how to open the cache when you find it.

You will need to find clues around ground zero in order to figure out how to open the cache. All of the clues are within 80 feet of the cache. Keep your eyes open!

All the clues are hidden around the same type of tree, in the same manner. Unfortunately, due to muggles, the cache was moved to a non-central location relative to the clues. One clue is close to the new cache location, and the other two are in the same general direction from the cache. The farthest clue is at N 35° 10.482 W 080° 37.953.

As usual, please re-hide just as well or better than you found it. The cache should not be visible to passers by. Please latch the ammo can tight after re-securing as you found it before re-hiding, and sit it upright.

CONGRATS TO therapaint AND madkiwiman FOR FTC (First To Crack)!!!!

Now for some history. This cache was placed near the spot of "NATURE WALK NOOK". This is a similar idea, but there is no "FairyDust" available to open the cache! Look up the listing for GC2F69 for more info on this old hide, hidden 12/31/2001.

Finally, thanks to WVTim for help on this cache page design! Check out his cache, GC4612D, which was concieved from his experience here in Mint Hill! If you happen to be in West Virginia, please check it out.
