I fatto:
Originariamente progettato da parte degli italiani come uno scalo per il Cervino, il Finivia del Furggen è stato messo in funzione nel 1953. La stazione montale sul “Furggrat” non è stata mai costruito fino la fine, e anche la funicolare sul Cervino non e stato mai realizzato. Dopo il strappo della corda di trazione e pure il calo gravemente del ghiacciaio all’ uscita del tunnel, la leggendaria corsa nera No. 9 è stato chiuso, e fu lasciata alle forze della natura.

La stazione a monte è facilmente accessibile e offre spazio per il pernottamento.
Informazioni sull’ viaggio:
La salita dal lato italiano richiede una buona condizione, sicurezza ed esperienza nel trattamento con ramponi e piccozze. Se fa buon tempo i ometto e resti della pista offersi un buon orientamento. In condizioni di scarsa visibilità basta un piccolo errore per DNF. Dalla stazione Plan Maison fino il Lost-Place ci metti circa 6-7 ore se hai una condizione media. Per la discesa ci metti circa 3-4 ore.
Addizionale indicazione
Difficoltà 5 non è una casella nascosto sul terreno, ma una preparazione necessaria per la esecuzione difficile del tour alla chace. Questo non è un T5 ordinario, quale può essere realizzato solo con buon materiale qui dipende anche la psiche. Vi trovate in un regno, in quel solo un passo falso può portare conseguenze fatali. Soprattutto in estate la salita e molto difficile a caso di proroga nevai, e liscia a volte quasi verticalmente di pendenza così come su sciolti, morbidi e inclinati sito poco prima della stazione. Fusibile ordinari non sono a quasi possibile. In alternativa, è possibile anche di prendere da Zermatt in direzione Cima del Breuil, qui pero si deve arrampicarsi alpino - di solito in questo modo è ancora molto più difficili.

Ein extravaganter Lost-Place in luftiger Höhe (3.492 m)
Um den Cache zu finden, steht eine hochalpine Bergtour an. Sofern ihr keine Erfahrung damit habt, informiert euch vorher gründlich, was es dabei im Allgemeinen zu beachten gibt.
Neben der üblichen Ausrüstung für hochalpine Regionen benötigt ihr:
- Steigeisen
- Eispickel
- Taschen-/Stirnlampe
- 50 Meter Seil kann sinnvoll sein, haben wir für den Abstieg benutzt
Die Geschichte
Ursprünglich als Zwischenstation einer geplanten Seilbahn von Cervinia auf das Matterhorn(!) errichtet, wurde die Furggenbahn im Jahre 1953 in Betrieb genommen. Die Bergstation auf dem Furggrat wurde aber nie ganz fertig gebaut und auch die Seilbahn auf das Matterhorn nach Einsprüchen der Schweizer wieder verworfen. Trotzdem war die Bahn fast 40 Jahre in Betrieb. Nach dem Riss des Zugseils und des bereits stark zurückgegangenen Gletschers am Ski-Tunnelausgang wurde die legendäre schwarze Piste Nr. 9 im Jahr 1993 geschlossen und die Station den Naturgewalten überlassen.
Die Location
Die Bergstation ist frei zugänglich und kann auch zum Übernachten benutzt werden. Erst eine Übernachtung da oben gibt der ganzen Unternehmung den richtigen Kick. ;-)
Informationen zum Weg
Der Aufstieg von der italienischen Seite erfordert eine gute Kondition, Trittsicherheit und Erfahrung im Umgang mit Steigeisen und Eispickel. Bei gutem Wetter bieten Steinmännchen und die Überreste der Pistensicherungen eine gute Orientierung. Die letzten hunderte Meter zur Station muss im Schnee über die Reste des ehemaligen Gletschers steil aufgestiegen werden. Bei schlechten Sichtverhältnissen kann ein kleiner Fehler schon mehr als nur den DNF bedeuten. Von der Station Plan Maison bis zum Lost-Place sind es mit durchschnittlicher Kondition etwa 6 - 7 Stunden. Der Abstieg ist in etwa 3 - 4 Stunden zu schaffen. Sinnvoll ist es, jeweils einen Tag für Auf- und Abstieg zu kalkulieren.
Noch ein zusätzlicher Hinweis
Difficulty 5 steht nicht für eine schwer versteckte Dose vor Ort, sondern für die notwendige ausgiebige Vorbereitung und schwierige Durchführung der Tour zum Cache. Dies ist kein üblicher T5, den man allein mit gutem Material besteht, hier kommt es auch auf die Psyche an. Ihr begebt euch in Gefilde, in denen ein einziger falscher Schritt sehr fatale Konsequenzen nach sich ziehen kann. Besonders im Sommer ist der Aufstieg über weiche, teilweise fast senkrecht verlaufende Schneefelder sehr schwierig, ebenso über loses, weiches und schräg abfallendes Gelände kurz vor der Station. Übliche Sicherungsmaßnahmen sind dort kaum möglich. Als Alternative kann man auch den Weg von Zermatt über den Grat aus Richtung Furgghorn nehmen, hier ist dann aber alpines Klettern angesagt - in der Regel ist dieser Weg noch wesentlich schwieriger.

An extravagant abandoned place in breezy heights (3,492 m)
To find the cache, you have to undertake a high alpine mountain tour. If you're unexperiencend in such things, you should carefully inform yourself before you start.
In addition to the common equipment for high alpine tours, you will need:
- Crampons
- Ice axe
- Torch/Headlight
- 50 meter rope can be useful, we needed it for the descent
The history
Originally build as a stopover for a planned aerial cableway from Cervinia to the top of Matterhorn(!), the Furggenbahn started operation in the year 1953. The construction of the summit station on the Furgg ridge has been never really finished, and the cableway project to the Matterhorn summit has been cancelled after complaints of the Swiss. Regardless, the Furggenbahn cableway was in operation for almost 40 years. When a towing rope teared in a cold winter night, and with the drastically decrease of the glacier below the exit of the ski tunnel, the legendary black diamond ski-run number 9 was closed in the year 1993, and the summit station has been left on its own.
Informations about the way to the station
The ascent from the Italian side requires to be in good condition and some experience in the use of crampons and ice axe. In good weather conditions, piled stones and the remains of the old ski-run demarcations will help to find the way to the top quite easily. The last some hundred meters to the station have to be steeply climbed up in snow over the remains of the glaciar. If the sight is bad, a small mistake can cause more then a DNF. From Plan Maison station up to the abandoned Furggenbahn station, it will take approximately 6 to 7 hours, the descent can be made in 3 to 4 hours. It's recommended to plan one day for the ascent and another day for the descent.
The location
The abandoned station is freely accessible and can be used to stay overnight. To spend a night up there will be the highlight of the tour. :)
Some additional hints
Difficulty 5 does not mean the cache container itself is difficult to find - it's the neccessary preparation and difficult execution of the tour to the cache. This is no usual T5-cache, which only requires good equipment, it requires very good psychic conditions too. You will get into domains, where a wrong step can cause very fatal consequences. Especially in summer, the ascent in soft snow fields, which will become nearly vertically on the top, is very difficult. Also, there can be very muddy and sloping terrain on the ridge. Usual securing methods can be nearly impossible. An alternative route starting from Zermatt via Furgghorn along the ridge requires alpine climbing - usually this is much more difficult - for experts only!
