Geocache Description:

Kattendel Beach is located on the beach between IJmuiden en Zandvoort.
The beach is always open and you can start walking in IJmuiden or Bloemendaal aan Zee (dogs allowed).

The National Park Zuid-Kennemerland is open from sunrise till sunset (see your GPS for the exact times) for hikers and bikers.
The best weather to visit the beach is with sunshine or windforce > 6 or with sunset.

The cache is located on the beach-side of the ZEEREEP-fence. Bring a stick for locating the stash. It is burried 40 cm below the sand surface.

This location is on a nudist beach. If nudity is a problem for you, please come with bad/cold weather.

The stash is a small military first aid box. It is buried in the sand and a chain is protecting the stash from blowing away. To protect the stash we put a piece of wood on top of it.

Strandopgang Kattendel

You will not find a logbook in the box. We put 4 waterproof colour-markers in the box. Please search for a shell, a small piece of wood or something else you like to put in. Write your name and date on your item and put it in the box. After a few month we will make photos of your artwork and publish them on this site.

This cache is part of the Thijsse´s Wish Trilogy:

Jac. P. Thijsse Thijsse´s Wish

“Our dunes are the product of the interaction between sea and sand, wind and water, flora and fauna. Where this process is allowed to take its natural course, it shapes a landscape of magnificent beauty and wealth, of everlasting appeal, which none of the best landscape designers could even come close to creating, no matter how hard they try.” This sentence opens the memorandum that Jac. P. Thijsse wrote in 1944, a year before his death, about the dunes “between the Zandvoortschen Straatweg road and the Noordzeekanaal channel” which he advocated having designated as a national park or nature reserve and recreation area called De Kennemerduinen. Jac. P. Thijsse lived and worked most of his life in Haarlem and environs. He was one of the founding fathers of nature conservation in the Netherlands, but was at the same time a genuine innovator of education. All this makes it all the more special that part of Thijsse’s dream should become reality the year of commemoration of his death 50 years ago. The designation as National Park will enable the eleven proprietors and stewards of Zuid-Kennemerland to intensify their co-operation and better co-ordinate their management. Nature preservation as well as public and normal education will receive an extra impulse as a result.
