Geocache Description:

This is Regular cache located at Wells State Park in Sturbridge, MA. Visitors to the Park will leave their vehicles at the main gate and walk in. There is a small parking fee during the summer season, otherwise parking is free. Your hike from the parking area to the cache and back will be about 1 mile on mostly paved and level road. This area is only open from sunrise to sunset.

This cache is one in my Eagle Scout Series. My goal is to bring you to a place that an Eagle Scout has completed his Eagle Scout Service Project. One of the requirements for a Life Scout to become an Eagle Scout is they must demonstrate leadership of others in a service project that is helpful to their religious organization, school or community. They must plan all the details of the project, obtain any permits or permissions necessary and then recruit and lead a team to complete their vision. They need to seek donations of materials, or plan a fund raiser, that will supply the needs of their project. They will manage change and resolve any issues that arise as they work to complete their goal. Please take a moment as you pass by these areas to realize that what you are looking at is the work of a very dedicated responsible young man. These are perhaps the future leaders of our great country. Wells State Park sits on about 1400 acres of mostly wooded land. It offers its visitors many outdoor activities. Today’s hike will bring you to the waterfront where you will find the hard work of an Eagle Scout Service Project. Here the young man constructed a retaining wall to stop shoreline erosion and give folks who like to fish a great location. He also landscaped the slope behind the wall with small trees, grass and a split rail fence. The State Park was so pleased with his efforts that they placed a sign here to thank him. It has been a few years since the Scout finished his work here, but his efforts will remain for sometime to come.
