Une petite promenade à travers bois, à la rencontre du passé…
Pour arriver à ce château féodal, garez vous au waypoint indiqué.
Vous verrez le chemin en face de vous, de l’autre côté de la route. Les premiers mètres du départ sont goudronnés, mais le sentier devient rapidement très sauvage. Vous marcherez alors le long d’une piste très étroite, dans une petite jungle où abondent les ronces !! Pensez à choisir des vêtements et chaussures adéquats !
La montée est très courte, avec seulement une centaine de mètres de dénivelé. Comptez entre 10 et 15mn pour arriver aux abords des vestiges.
Dès les premiers mètres, si vous vous retournez vers la Garonne, vous pourrez admirer une belle vue. (voir photo).
Perché sur une éminence, ce château qui date du XIVe siècle participait à la surveillance de la Garonne du haut de sa tour.
Un système de signaux optiques complété par un dispositif de courriers équestres assurait, à l’époque, la correspondance entre la tour de guet d’Ausseing et le château de Roquefort sur Garonne.
C’est là que sont nés, entre le XVIe et XVIIe siècles, deux évêques de l' Eglise Gallicane (nom de l’Eglise Catholique en France jusqu’en 1870) : les frères Montpezat de Carbon. Jean de Montpezat de Carbon s’est rendu célèbre dans l’affaire de la régale lorsque Louis XIV décida de percevoir les revenus des évêchés français vacants, ce qui amena d’importants conflits avec le Pape.
(L’ Eglise Gallicane enseignait en particulier que le pouvoir des évêques réunis en concile était plus grand que celui du pape.)

A stroll through the woods to meet the past ...
To reach this castle, park at the indicated waypoint.
You will see the path in front of you on the other side of the road. The first metres of the departure are tarred, but the path quickly becomes very wild. You will then walk along a very narrow track, in a small jungle where thorns abound! Choose appropriate clothing and footwear!
The climb is very short, with only a hundred metres in altitude. Count between 10 and 15 minutes to reach the vicinity of the remains.
At the very start of your stroll, if you turn to the Garonne, you will see a beautiful view. (see photo).
Perched on a hill, this castle which dates from the fourteenth century was involved in the supervision of the Garonne from the top of its tower.
A system of optical signals complemented by equestrian post operated, at the time, a correspondence between the watchtower of Ausseing and the castle of Roquefort sur Garonne.
There were born between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, two bishops of the Gallican Church (name of the Catholic Church in France until 1870): the brothers Montpezat de Carbon. Jean de Montpezat de Carbon was made famous in the matter of the regale when Louis XIV decided to collect the income of vacant French bishoprics, which led to significant conflicts with the Pope.
(The Gallican Church taught in particular that the power of bishops gathered in council was bigger than the Pope’s.)
