The first ship station of the county was handed over at Dunaremete in 1930 and was in operation until the WWII. In the beginning barges vegetables, pepper and grain produced in the Szigetköz were shipped to Vienna on barges, later on coal, building materials and alumina. Dunaremete was one of the main stations of the liners between Budapest and Vienna. The harbour ceased when the Duna turned into a border.
The former harbour is now a memorial site, the memorial of the Boatman of the Duna which commemorates the boatmen who had taken up service at the site. There’s a campsite with picnic tables and a fireplace.
