This cache is intended to be found AFTER DARK1. Why after dark you ask? Because it’s fun, it’s different, and it’s a little bit spooky. Trust the “silvery eyes” for they will lead you safely through the darkness. Beware of the “eyes of fire”2 for they will stop at nothing to protect what is rightfully theirs! Boo-Whaa-Haa-haaaaa!
This is a family-friendly two-stage multi cache located in the beautiful Shawnee Park of Woodbury. Park hours are 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Give yourself a good ½ hour to complete the series. Total hiking shouldn’t exceed more than a ¼ mile. Watch your step as you will be traveling on and off the beaten paths. Find the Stage 2 cache to sign the log.
Note: To maximize the “magical” effects of this cache, enter “The Cage” with your lights either off, or pointed downward.
STAGE 1: The coordinates provided are the starting point. Upon arrival you will find yourself within the confines of “The Cage”. Turn on your trusty headlamp or flashlight4 and scan your surroundings. In a matter of moments you will make out the mischievous monikers of mayhem and malcontent. In other words, the information you seek will magically appear. Use the information gathered to fill in the six missing digits of the Stage 2 starting coordinates: N44 56.XXX - W092 58.XXX. Record your findings and proceed to the next stage of the journey.
STAGE 2: The information gathered in Stage 1 will provide your Stage 2 starting point5. Once again, scan your surroundings. This time you seek assistance of a different sort. This time you are looking for a ghostly set of “silvery eyes”. Once spotted, approach the eyes to find your entry point into the darkness (spooky eh?). Stand under their watchful protection and scan the darkness for their friends. These hovering helpers will happily and hastily have you halfway home before you know it. Follow each set of these eerie apparitions as they lead you closer and closer to your goal. Continue on your brave trek until the peaceful silvery eyes are replaced with fearsome “eyes of fire”! These evil optics indicate you are close to the final treasure.
Terrain Warning: Several people have pointed out a sizeable muskrat hole near the Stage 2 final. Please keep your eyes peeled!
