Größter Findling im Raum Chemnitz

Findlinge:
Als Findling oder Erratischen Block bezeichnet man einen einzeln liegenden sehr großen Stein, der durch Gletscher während der Kaltzeiten an seine heutige Position transportiert wurde. Nicht jeder Stein gilt dabei als Findling. Man spricht erst ab einem Volumen von ca. einem Kubikmeter von einem Findling.

Kaltzeiten:
In Nord- und Mitteldeutschland gab es während des Quartärs mehrere Kaltzeiten mit Eisvorstößen bis an den Fuß der Mittelgebirge. Durch die geringeren Temperaturen während der Kaltzeiten dehnten sich die Gletscher immer weiter aus. Dabei transportierten sie enorme Mengen an Gestein und Geröll und formten die Landschaft direkt und indirekt.

Alter Schwede:
Der Findling "Alter Schwede" besteht aus Granit und wurde vor ca. 400.000 Jahren während der Elsterkaltzeit aus Schweden hierher transportiert. Er wurde in den 90er Jahren in einer benachbarten Sandgrube gefunden. Mit seinen 32t ist er der größte Findling im Großraum Chemnitz. Er legte im Elstereis mindestens 700 km zurück.

Aufgaben:
Es gibt vor Ort keinerlei Information zu dem Findling. Um diesen Earthcache dennoch erfolgreich zu loggen, müsst Ihr folgende Aufgaben erledigen:

1. Stattet dem Findling einen Besuch ab und vermesst seinen Umfang in Bauchnabelhöhe.
2. Recherchiert 2 weitere Kaltzeiten, die in Norddeutschland auftraten.
3. Baut ein vierstufiges Modell über die Entstehungsgeschichte des Findlings
   a) Ein Stück Fels wird vom Gletschereis transportiert.
   b) Der Gletscher schmilzt und läßt den Alten Schweden zurück.
   c) Schmelzwassersande und Gerölle überdecken den Findling.
   d) Bei Erdarbeiten wird der Findling gefunden.
   
4. Ladet das Modell zu Eurem Log.
5. Mailt uns die Antworten und loggt den Cache mit den Fotos des Modells. Wir melden uns, falls etwas mit den Antworten nicht stimmt. Ihr braucht nicht auf eine Freigabe zu warten.

Das Bauen des Modells ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil Eurer Earthcacheaufgaben und zwingend erforderlich - schließlich gibt's dafür ja auch vier D-Pünktchen.

Erratic blocks:
A single, very large stone that was transported during glacial time by glaciers to its current position is named an erratic block. Not any stone is an erratic block. It must have a volume of at least one cubic meter to count as an erratic block.

Glacial times:
In the north and middle of Germany were a few glacial times during the quarternary with ice shields up to the highlands. Due to the lower temperatures during the glacial times the glaciers growed further. During this they transported huge amounts of stones and boulders and modelled landscape in direct and indirect way.

Old Swede:
The erratic boulder "Old Swede" consists of granite and was transported here before 400.000 years during period of Elsterian. It came from Sweden and was found in the 1990s in a sand pit nearby. With its weight of 32t it is the largest erratic boulder in greater area of Chemnitz. It was transportet by the glaciers at least 700 km.

Tasks:
On-site there is no information available regarding the erratic boulder. However, to log this earthcache successfully you need to do the following tasks:

1. Visit the erratic boulder at the given coordinates and measure it's perimeter in height of your belly button.
2. Do some research of another two glacials times in northern / middle germany.
3. Build a modell of with phases about the origin of the erratic.
   a) A part of a stone is transported by the glacier.
   b) Glacier is melting and leaves the Old Swede.
   c) Sand and stones covering the erratic boulder.
   d) During earth-works the erratic is found.
   
4. Upload the modell with your log.
5. Mail us via profile the answers and log the found with pictures of your modell. We'll contact you if there are any problems with the answers. You don't need to wait for log permission.

The construction of the modell is an important part of your earthcache tasks and mandatory - you get four D-points for it.
