Mossy Bank Overlook Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Joe&Lynn's8: We went up to Mossy Bank to check on this cache on Dec 3rd. The park entrance was closed due to hunting season. The weather quickly changed and we weren't properly dressed for a 30 minute walk to the cache and back to the gate, so we were unable to look for it as the administrators have requested. We have decided to archive it and we will go back in the Spring and retrieve it if it's still there. Joe and Lynn

Geocache Description:

This cache replaces the first and second Mossy Bank Overlook caches that have been muggled. PLEASE COVER IT WELL!

The park is open daily from 10am – 10pm. Hunting is allowed from October 15 - April 30.
**** PLEASE NOTE-- the gate into the park is closed during hunting season. You can find the cache, but you will have to park at the entrance and it is about a 15 minute walk one-way to the cache.****

This cache is located in Mossy Bank Park. It overlooks Bath and the Cohocton River Valley. The overlook can be seen from Rt. 17/I 86. Many people believe that this place offers the “Best views in the Western New York”. Make sure you bring a camera!

The park offers picnicking, a playground, pavilions, snow shoe and hiking trails, hang gliding, a small nature center, and beautiful panoramic views.

BEWARE... there have been reports of black bear in these woods.

Directions: Go into the Village of Bath. You will need to locate East or West Morris Street. It runs parallel to Rt 17 and behind Pultney Square Park. From East Morris Street, take a left onto Cameron Street. If you are on West Morris Street, it will be a right onto Cameron Street. Follow the signs for Mossy Bank Park.
(You will need to take a left onto Windfall, then a left onto Mossy Park Road. This will eventually Dead End, and change into a dirt road when you enter the park.)

Once inside the park, follow the one way signs to Overlook.

You are looking for a medium sized camouflaged plastic container. (Note... On 10/24/09 we replaced the container for the fourth time and this is it's third location. Therefore, please log all "did not find" visits so that we can closely monitor this cache.)
CAUTION: If you are caching with children, please be careful and keep them close to you. The only guardrails are at the lookout spot and there is a potential vertical drop of several hundred feet.

Enjoy, Be Safe, and Have a Great Day!
