Geocache Description:

A Tribute to the loss experienced from the Jeeralang BushfireofFeruary 2009

This is the first Cache we have placed, so i will appreciate any feedback from the vintage cachers. Interestingly we have not hidden them in our local area of Geelong, but rather near our parents property in Jeeralang, South of Morwell, LaTrobe Valley.

We decided to place them in a manner that demonstrated a memorial for the loss sufferd from the bushfires of 09 that swept through this area.
The fires swept through the area on 7 February. In their wake they left two fatalities in Hazelwood and one fatality in Jeeralang. In Hazelwood South, eight properties were destroyed, while there was one property lost in Hazelwood North and four in Jeeralang.
The Jeeralang North Hall was extensively damaged, while local timber plantations and farm fencing also sustained significant damage.

From the position of these caches you will be looking North across the LaTrobe Valley towards the great divining range. It is a truly beautiful view. From here you will clearly see the devistation caused by the intensity of the fire as it roared up the hill. Imagine the fire travelling through the this area pushed on by 120 km winds and 49 degrees of heat.

The cache is hidden in an area easy to access, and parking should not be a problem. It is wise to be weary of smankes in the summer as this area begins to revegitate.

Thee should not be any trouble with muggles, but there are many mountain bikers around, so best to remain aware
