Geocache Description:

A tough walk but incredible views! 3 Stages

Our geocaching adventure started in 2006 where we found our first cache on Mahe. There was no cache on the most beautiful island La Digue at that time and we decided to come back and place the first cache here. Now it is 2009 and we are not the first but our cache will be the first multi stage cache here

In 2015/2018 the cache was unfortunately muggled, but with the help of Divemann and froschgruen/blaubeere we got a replacement. The cache is now at a new place, not far away from the old cache site.

The cache brings you to a place with incredible beautiful views across the island itself and all their neighbour islands. You have to spend some time to find this cache, but you will definitely not be disappointed! The return trip from the jetty takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, taking a taxi from waypoint 1 to 3 will reduce the time and the terrain stars significantly, but you have to explain to the taxi driver why to stop at waypoint 2. Usually you can use a bicycle for half of the way instead of a taxi. For the second half of the way you need tracking sandals at least - no flip flops! Take some water with you, although you will find a gorgeous bar for a rest in between. We recommend to have a rest on the way back.

At waypoint 1: S 04° 20.932' E 055° 49.754' you find the La Digue Post Office not far from the Passenger Terminal Building. Left of the letter box you can see numerous P.O. boxes, each with a three digit number. Choose the box in the center and write down the number as A B C. From the fellow geocacher kowalski26 we got the information that the Post Office was moved away. Therfore you get here the number of the box in the center 063 (A=0; B=6; C=3)

At waypoint 2: S 04° 21.379' E 055° 50.114' you arrive at a t-junction. The signpost already shows the name of the cache. Above this you see another destination. Write down the distance to it in kilometers: D.E

Follow up the road and try how far your fitnes will keep you on your bike. Then put it at the side of the road and go on by foot to waypoint 3: S 04° 21.519' E 055° 50.458'. This is the hardest part of the walk! At the end you reach the bar that we mentioned above. Shortly before there is a sign for the bar, below in the concrete is an engraved date: -DF-G-DH-BD (It seems, this concrete numbers are missing. The date was -17-8-19-61.)

Now you have all necessary answers to complete the final coordinates. To find the cache you have to take the footpath right of the final entrance steps to the bar. It is not necessary to enter the bar (yet). Follow the path up the hill and enter the forest. Take the footpath straight on to an area where you have to cross some granite rocks and be careful not to turn right before these rocks even if another path shows a way up the hill.

Hold out, just a few minutes to go. The final coordinates are:
S AE° (H-F)D.CHC'
E A(D+E)(G-C)° (D+E)A.(B-D)HG'

Good luck!

Small note on cache maintenance: There is a local "cache guardian" who will assist if needed.

Thanks to the fellow geocacher nelocache for the following hint: If the cafe is closed - "we found another way around the garden of the café. If you go down the road again, on the left side, about 15 to 20 meters you can find a small path up the hill.
