0, 0 II - Fort Ord Dunes Numbered Remains Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Trail Reader: Headed out after work again today and found the viewing platform empty. After spending some time digging away at the sand that had accumulated in the area of GZ, I found the container. I realized that future cachers shouldn't have to unbury the container, so I began looking around for a more likely hiding spot. After coming up empty, I noticed young love, this time without a blanket, heading toward me on the boardwalk and I decided that this cache has seen its better days. Time to archive.

Geocache Description:

Meet Fort Ord Dunes State Park!

Fort Ord Dunes State Park is located on four miles of Monterey Bay shoreline. The area is open and relatively undeveloped, but has a military history as a small arms training ground. Over 100 abandoned buildings and military remnants are scattered throughout the African ice plant-covered dunes.

In March 2009, the park officially opened. Hours are 8:00 to a half hour after sunset daily. Admission is free. Parking is available by taking 1st Avenue to the 8th Street bridge--follow the signs.

This cache series will allow you to hike the roads and tracks of the park while watching for those "what is that doing here?" spots. And keep your eyes open for those numbers!

CACHE DETAILS
Although not officially "numbered remains," two wooden-slatted zeros stand on the cliff--are they targets for the cameras mounted on the nearby dune? Zeros also dot the hillside north of the mechanical apparatus, as well as the cliffside leading to the beach. Any ideas?

The original cache "0,0" was hidden in an area now identified as environmentally sensitive and closed to the public.

This new hide will provide the cacher with a rear view of the zeros from the cliffside observation deck. Standing just to the right of the information board will offer the most direct sighting. There is is no need to leave the deck to retrieve the cache.

The cache is a 35mm film container. Please bring your own pen to sign the log.

UPDATE: As of 11/6/10, the "0,0" objects are now no longer visible, defeating the purpose of this cache. However, I have decided to leave it as is, but I will not replace it if it is once again muggled.
