Je vous emmène découvrir le Château du Bois et faire un petit bout de chemin dans les environs .
Le château du Bois dépend en 879 de la ville de Vienne et du Royaume de Provence. En 943, il fut rattaché au Royaume de Bourgogne. En 1328, il devient indépendant du Comté du Forez.
Au Moyen-Âge, le château devint le centre économique de la région genésienne. C’est à la fin de la féodalité que le château connut les plus grands aménagements : créés au XVème siècle, les divers corps de bâtiments ont semble-t-il été édifiés à des périodes différentes. C’est au XVIème siécle qu’est réaménagée la première partie par Jean Tardy surnommé "Du Bois", dont l’arrière petit-fils donnera son cachet définitif à la partie centrale. En 1754, un plan mentionne l’existence d’une troisième tour au nord du bâtiment dont il ne reste aujourd’hui plus rien.
C’est en 1531 que le "village de Saint-Genest" rentre définitivement dans la Couronne de France, mais il est encore fortement imprégné de l’organisation dépendante d’un double pouvoir : l’un exercé par le clergé qui percevait la dîme, l’autre par les seigneurs auxquels les habitants devaient rendre d’innombrables services.
Une légende veut que dans ces lieux ait séjourné le célèbre Mandrin après avoir contraint la Dame du Bois à le cacher de ses poursuivants. Un autre personnage connu, l’abbé Jean-Jacques Drevet, curé de Saint-Jean-Bonnefonds en 1786, participa à la fondation de la secte des Béguins, issue du Jansénisme.
Le château du Bois sera vendu en 1771 à David Bollioud, Baron d’Argental et Seigneur de Montchal qui le transmit à son neveu David Roch de Quinson. Le domaine comprenait une dizaine d’exploitations agricoles très importantes pour l’époque, soit 431 hectares. En 1838, le château revient à la famille de Fontanès qui le rénovera jusqu’à nos jours.
Situé à 3 kms de St-Genest-Malifaux et à 2 kms du "Col du Grand Bois", une partie des bâtiments actuellement est restée privée, l’autre est mise en valeur par le Lycée Agricole de Saint-Genest-Malifaux/Précieux avec une auberge (produits du terroir), des chambres d’hôtes. Un centre équestre complète cet ensemble.

The Chateau du Bois depends in 879 of the city of Vienna and the Kingdom of Provence. In 943, he was attached to the Kingdom of Burgundy. In 1328, he became independent of the County of Drill.

A legend in these places have stayed the famous Chuck after forcing the Lady of the Woods to hide from his pursuers. Another familiar figure, Father Jean-Jacques Drevet, pastor of St. John Bonnefonds in 1786, participated in the founding of the sect of Beguins, issue of Jansenism.
The Chateau du Bois will be sold in 1771 to David Bollioud, Baron and Lord of Argental Montchal who passed it to his nephew David Roch Quinson. The estate included a dozen farms very important for the time, or 431 hectares. In 1838, the castle returned to the family who will renovate Fontanès today.
Located 3 kms from St-Genest-Malifaux and 2 kms from the "Col du Grand Bois, one of the buildings currently remained private, the other is highlighted by the Agricultural College of Saint-Genest-Malifaux/Précieux with an inn (local produce), the guest rooms. An equestrian center complete the package.
