Fort CASSO
6000 m3 de béton,500 tonnes d’acier, 32 armes automatiques et 8 pièces antichar : l’ouvrage était le gardien du plateau de Rohrbach. Le fort comporte 3 blocs en surface ainsi qu’une véritable petite ville enfouie sous 25 mètres de calcaire.
L’ouvrage était capable de résister deux mois grâce a ses réserves, mais l’histoire en a décidé autrement.
En mai 1940 c’est la débâcle dans le nord, le 15 juin les allemands percent dans la Sarre. A partir du 20 juin l’armée allemande encercle la position et lance deux assauts contre le bloc II .L’assaillant est cependant repoussé avec l’aide de l’artillerie du Simserhof. Invaincu,le fort cessera le combat sur ordre du gouvernement après la signature de l’armistice.

6000 m3, 500 Tonnen Stahl, 32 automatischen Waffen und 8 Panzerabwehrkanonen, das werk verteidigte die höhen von Rohrbach. Die Festung besteht aus 3 Blöcken an der Oberfläche und eine unter 25 m Kalkfelsen liegende kleine Stadt.
Es war möglich zwei Monaten zu kämpfen ohne Versorgung von außen, aber die Geschichte nahm einen anderen Verlauf.
Mai 1940,der Französische Rückzug im Norden,15. Juni, die Deutschen Breschen durch im Saartal. Vom 20.juni 1940 an umzingelten sie die Position, und versuchten zweimal den Block II zu stürmen, ohne Erfolg .Die Festung wurde nicht eingenommen, sie ergab sich auf Befehl der Regierung nach Unterzeichnung des Waffenstillstandes.

Made of 6000 m3 of concrete, 500 tons of steel, with 32 machine guns and 8 antitank guns, the fortress stood guard over Rohrbach plateau. The fort is composed of 3 surface bunkers and a veritable underground city buried under 80 feet of limestone.
The fortress was self-sufficient for two months, thanks to its supplies, but the war made it another story. May 1940 saw the debacle in the North of France and on June 15th the Germans broke through the Sarre border. From June 20th, the enemy troops went unexpectedly round the fort and launched two assaults against block II. However, the enemy was rapidly driven off and the fortress remained unconquered. The government ordered all fighting to stop after the armistice.
