We have Motorway Mayhem and we have A-Road Anarchy. Now a series for public transport users! SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick cache-and-dashes at train stations. There is no need to enter the station to access the cache.
Battle Railway Station is on the main Hastings to London (Southeastern) Line & serves the people of Battle & surrounding areas. Battle is one of the most famous Military sites in the world. Just yards away the Battle of Hastings took place in 1066, thus giving its name to the whole town that is built on the site around five miles from Hastings. William the Conqueror came to the English shores from Normandy & defeated King Harold in 1066 & nearby there are several museums & commemorations of this amazing & significant event in English history. The station was opened on 1st January 1852. The station building was designed by William Tress. It is grade II listed & considered to be one of the finest Gothic Style small stations in the country. Battle station consists of 2 platforms linked by a footbridge & a station building housing the ticket office & waiting room. The original sidings have now gone & now form part of the car park. The platforms are staggered & originally did not overlap as they do today, but were extended to cater for 8 car trains shortly after the 1986 electrification of the line. The cache is a micro containing a logbook, pencil and certificates for the first 3 to find.
