Parker Mountain Lookout was built in 1934 with a 30' tower and 10x10' cab. This tower was destroyed by vandals in 1996. A new all-steel 50' live-in tower was constructed in 1997 and is staffed every summer.
There is quite a view from this tall tower! Being steel construction it doesn't even sway in the wind! Be sure and ask the lookout attendant, Karen, if you can come up and take in the view. Please be respectiful and don't bother her before 10:00am or after 6:00pm. The lookout is manned from mid June to early October. At 5200' it will not be accessible in the winter.
It is 2 miles from Hwy 66 to the lookout. But, there is a gate 3/4 mile from the lookout that is locked when not manned, so plan accordingly. The cache is a regular sized container filled with trade items. Please rehide well.
