This cache is placed just outside a hill fort (fornborg) high above the waters of Lake Mälarn!
The place is listed on Riksantikvarieämbetets (RAÄ, Swedish office for the management of historic landmarks and buildings) homepage as "RAÄ Adelsö 1:11" and is the location of a former hillfort of approx 95m x 95m, about 50m above the water level of lake Mälarn. The dating seems to be not quite clear, as "Stoneage, Bronzeage, Ironage" is mentioned by RAÄ, but most likely it was used over a long period of time. One could also imagine that in Viking times, when a kings residence was located on Adelsö and a big settlement existed on neighbouring island Birka, this place was used as a outlook post to check for friendly visitors or enemy ships approaching from the north and west. The cache is NOT located within the acient walls, so don't move any stones there!
Today the place is also very good for a romantic sunset picnic, so don't forget to bring some food and drink - and of course please take your trash home!
