Geocache Description:

Listed coordinates are for the "Gate of All Saints." One of 20 gated entrances to Central Park. Each gate was named by Olmsted and Vaux, the park's designers, for the type of person they anticipated entering the park from that area. The cache is not there, but is a short distance away. To find the actual cache, you will need to solve the puzzle below.

This is one of the few gates in the park where the name may be disputed. In the 1862 Annual Report of the Board of Commissioners of the Central Park where Olmsted and Vaux first named the gates they said "the prosperity of a city depends in fair degree on the virtue and integrity of the citizens who live within it. It seems desirable therefore to have one gate to the park dedicated to holy men of all ages whose beneficent example has helped raise the standard of public morals." They named this gate the "Gate of All Saints." Though in their own later maps, (called the Greensward Map) the gate is named "Prophets Gate." In history however it is often the record that lasts the longest that determines the "truth" of the matter, be it correct or incorrect. The stone wall outside this gate says "All Saints" and so that is the name it shall likely forever have.
