Geocache Description:

Berufjoerdur, Giant Kettles

This Is a Earth Cache, consequently there are no container here. To get a approval logg se below.

They are foure kinds of Giant´s Kettle´s. River pothole´s, beach pothole´s, decompose pothole´s and glacial pothole´s. This Giant´s Kettle´s is river pothole´s which be formed under inland ice. Then strong rapid flowing melt water set stones in rotation which excavate this holes.

So the formation of a pothole (River pothole´s)
At the mountain heel increases stream velocity and the water dissolved gas forms bubbles.
Current velocity decreases contrast below mountains heel and gas bubbles dissolved.
Gas bubbles dissolved near rocks gives rise to cavitation.

By cavitation formation of small pits in the rock. The pits collect gravel and stones that starts around the turn of the power whorls.

A pothole is formed.
Down in the bottom of the giant pot is often a stone remains, the so-called runner who continues to deepen and widen the giant pot.

Glacial pothole
Formed in a similar way as river pothole´s, but it is the melt water from the glacier, which put the stones in the rotation.

Beach pothole´s, in turn, is formed at the contemporary and ancient sea or lake shore by the waves erosive effects of eddy motion and rotation of stones. Beach pothole´s usually have an oval or elongated shape and is relatively shallow.

For the valid "cache found" log:

1)     And send to us via profile e-mailanswers to these three questions:

·        Estimate the diameter of the largest Giant´s Kettle you can se from the coordinates(please use the metric system). Do not try to get there, it could be whery dangerous!

·        Count how many Giant´s Kettle´s you could find.

·        There is one specific Giant kettle you can se in the waterfall, explain in simpel words how this one could be created there..
