The original D/T Bingo Challenge was developed by Harwell5 in Gastonia, N.C. (GC1P71J). It is believed to be the First Difficulty/Terrain Bingo Challenge in the U.S., until the addition of Bingo Challenges in Maryland and Virginia. The Harwell5s have granted permission to create this Virginia Bingo challenge, and I am honored they have allowed me to develop the next and hopefully not the last State Bingo Challenge.
If you are in the North Carolina or Maryland areas and have completed the D/T Bingo Challenge in Virginia, you can also go immediately for
H5's D/T BINGO Challenge - Traditional (North Carolina) and/or Ump35 & Bee's D/T BINGO Challenge (Maryland),
find the final cache in those locations and receive your additional smilies.
BINGO ANYONE?
The much loved classic game of chance where you hope your number is called and when you hear the right number you yell out, "BINGO!", has arrived in geocaching, but in this game of Bingo, there is a twist!
YOU get to pick the blocks to fill in on your card!
This challenge will test your skills at finding caches of all ratings. Your Mission is to fill in only ONE of three cards below while following the rules:
HORIZONTAL CARD
- One cache in each of the 9 Terrain ratings with the same Difficulty rating.

After you have completed ALL 9 of either horizontal, vertical or the combination diagonal, you can claim "BINGO" and now claim the find.
The Difficulty rating for this challenge is 5 based on the requirements of the challenge. The Terrain rating of 2.5 relates to the final cache location. For some, it may be a 2, and for others, it may be a 2.5.
This Challenge Cache will hopefully find a place for everyone to be able to complete, but it could be difficult physically or mentally and test your skills at being a geocacher.
- If your brain freezes at the thought of trying to find a 5 star difficulty cache or you just like to hike, then you should try the Horizontal Card.
- If you are not skilled at hiking and love the challenge of finding the cache, then you should should try the Vertical Card.
- But, if you are a GeocacheAholic and enjoy any and all caches, then the true challenge in this game would be to go for the Diagonal Card and try for the line from 1/1 to 5/5 or from 5/1 to 1/5.
THE RULES!!
NO EXCEPTIONS
- ANY cache listed on Geocaching.com that contains a logbook that you have signed is valid for this challenge. Found caches can be from any U.S. State or foreign Country
- Virtual, Webcam, Earthcache and Event Caches do not qualify)
- You CANNOT claim a cache that you have previously or currently own.
- Only caches hidden & published PRIOR to 09/06/09 can be used to claim a block on a card. This means you may already have completed the challenge! Finds of caches published after this date DO NOT qualify.
- Qualifying caches MUST BE ACTIVE. Archived or disabled caches DO NOT QUALIFY unless they were archived/disabled AFTER you logged your find.
- This Bingo Challenge cache DOES NOT qualify as a find for Difficulty 5 and Terrain 2.
- You may NOT log this cache as a find until the requirements have been met for each of the nine individual caches you use to fill your card. All rules pertaining to those caches must be followed as well.
- All finds (of this final cache) with non-qualifying logs WILL be deleted at my discretion.
- YOU ARE ONLY ENTITLED TO ONE "FTF" PER CARD.
WHEN YOU HAVE BINGO!
You MUST venture to find the final cache and sign the logbook, but instead of yelling "Found It!" (when / if you do), you SHOULD yell out "BINGO!"
Then you MUST (not optional) log your find and claim your by telling which card you have completed AND either:
1. Listing qualifying caches in your log with the date difficulty and terrain non-premium or premium
OR
2. Create and insert a link to YOUR bookmark list with each of your qualifying caches labeled with the date found, difficulty and terrain rating, (for premium members only due to feature of premium membership).
BONUS!!! - Three smileys are possible if you choose to complete each card, but you MUST follow the same rules and log as required for EACH card. However, only one visit to the final cache location is required AFTER you have completed at least ONE card. IF you have visited the final cache location and you want to log another card, you must state in your log that you have visited the final cache previously and the date of visit.
At your option, take a picture of yourself holding the BINGO sign and post it on your log so that we might enjoy seeing the smile on your face. It would also be in good caching fun to show others your hard work at completing this Challenge. Besides, since you have come so far in completing the challenge, wouldn't you want others to see your accomplishment!)
FINAL CACHE LOCATION & INFO
- Upon arrival at the posted coordinates, you should be standing next to an obvious structure. At this location, point to a bearing of 310 degrees. Begin walking along this bearing until you reach another structure's sign - approximately 330 feet. If the sign is missing, you should be standing at a fence like barrier. Turn left to a bearing of 210 degrees and walk approximately 165' into the wood to the cache site. This may require a small amount of variable movement. Use your GPS to determine the distances and bearings. Once you have traveled (as the crow flies) along both paths, begin your search. The cache is very close, but keep in mind that cover may vary the accuracy of your GZ.
- The final location coords may not have been taken with a GPSr with equal accuracy to your own, better or worse, so you may not get a single totally accurate GZ. Good "geosense" will tell you where to look.
- No hints are available unless a DNF is logged and an email is sent requesting a hint. If you log a DNF while at the final location (electronically), do so, but I may not be able to respond to your email right away, which means you may have to make a second visit to the final location.
- The final cache container is an ammo can that has been camo'd and blends well with it's surroundings.
- When and if you find the container, PLEASE re-hide it AS well or better than you found it, keeping in mind the surroundings and what would hide it best.
- Parking is available with plenty of spaces.
