Fire lookout towers used to dot the landscape during the middle of the last century. The Park Service built this one in 1934 but it was removed in the 70's. As with many lookout sites, this one is now covered with antennas.
There are a couple of ways to get to the cache. During the summer you can take the gondola to the top of the ridge south of the cache and have a nice meal along with your cache. Or you can hike up from the parking area. Either way, the views from the ridgeline are some of the best of Mt. Rainier.
The cache is placed a short distance away from the old lookout site to avoid the antennas.
This cache is ONLY accessible during the summer and early fall when the snow has melted off the high country.
As with any cache, bring your own pen or pencil.
