Geocache Description:

An accessible nano-cache drawing people's attention to the remains of Barton Court manor house that is bizarrely located right in the middle of an east Abingdon housing estate.

Barton Court

Barton Court was built in the 14th Century and was one of the earliest granges of the Saxon Abingdon Abbey.  The manor changed hands many times, and regularly hosted King Charles I, who is reported to have said goodbye to his wife for the final time here.  The remains of Barton Court are found in the middle of Sherwood Avenue near the Daisybank estate in the eastern part of Abingdon, near Waitrose and the Science Park.  Why a large section of the manor house was left during the 1970s development when the rest was pulled down, is anyone's guess!  I'm sure someone will be able to let me know.

There is lots of information about it on:

The cache is a magnetic nano. It was originally stuck on the railings surrounding the Manor, but it was found to be a heritage site, so I had to move it. For those driving, parking is available all round Sherwood Avenue. There is also a playground next to the cache location for geokiddies to have a play in after.

Step 1 - park around N51 40.420 W001 16.291 area (or anywhere on Sherwood Avenue)
Step 2 - visit N51 40.407 W001 16.345 to view the old Manor House.
Step 3 - look carefully to find the letters CR, and take the following numbers as AB.
Step 4 - visit N51 40.3(A+2)2 W001 16.2(8-B)2 to find the nano
