Organizácia Internet Klub bola založená v roku 1998 niekolkými študentami Žilinskej univerzity ako jedna z mnohých „študentských“ organizácií. Ich cielom bolo vybudovat dátovú siet na ubytovacích zariadeniach Žilinskej univerzity a poskytovat študentom nové možnosti vzdelávania a sebarealizácie prostredníctvom pripojenia tejto siete do medzinárodnej siete Internet. Postupom casu sa budovanie siete rozšírilo aj na jej správu a dvadsatštyrihodinový monitoring stavu siete.
Za jedenástrocnú existenciu tejto organizácie sa v nej vystriedalo mnoho clenov, z ktorých velká cast sú v dnešnej dobe úspešní podnikatelia aj vdaka prístupu k technológiám používaných v Internet Klube.
V dnešnej dobe pôsobí v Internet Klube 9 aktívnych clenov a 12 cakatelov na clenstvo. Všetci spomenutí sa aktívne zapájajú do jeho cinnosti.
Cielom organizácie bolo a je umožnit študentom Žilinskej univerzity ubytovaným na jej ubytovacích zariadeniach prístup k sieti Internet a získavat, rozširovat a aplikovat svoje nadobudnuté znalosti aj aktívnym
zapájaním sa do cinnosti tejto študentskej organizácie.
Neoddelitelnou súcastou života organizácie je aj neustále vzdelávanie jej clenov v rôznych oblastiach – od elektrotechniky po softvérové inžinierstvo.
Hlavnými cielmi sú ale aj nadalej správa a budovanie pocítacovej siete na ubytovacích zariadeniach ŽU, poskytovanie ubytovaným študentom internetové pripojenie, správa a vývoj rôznych nových aplikácií a dalších služieb s tým súvisiacich. Internet Klub momentálne spravuje siet a zabezpecuje služby, ktoré využíva približne 2000 aktívnych používatelov. Siet a množstvo poskytovaných služieb sa neustále rozširuje, co zvyšuje nároky na používané zariadenia. Momentálne sú jednotlivé izby pripojené technológiou 100 Mbps ethernetu, ale ani to nie je konecný stav. Hned ako budú pripojené všetky izby, zacne sa s upgrejdom na gigabit. Chrbtica je postavená na gigabitovej optickej technológii, ktorá je momentálne v štádiu zvyšovania prenosovej rýchlosti na 2-4 gigabity a v budúcnosti rátame aj s možnostou prejst na 10 Gbps.
Cinnost Internet Klubu je financovaná z rozpoctu študentských organizácií, ktorý sa každým rokom skracuje, resp. na ten istý balík financií pripadá každým rokom viac a viac nových organizácií. Prostriedky na stavbu a rozvoj siete pochádzajú z darovacieho úctu Žilinskej univerzity, na ktorý prispievajú iba používatelia služieb poskytovaných Internet Klubom, a tým pádom je rozvoj siete silne závislý od našich prispievatelov.
Významné udalosti:
- 2014 - testujeme enterprise WiFi siete od firiem Cisco, Fortinet, Ruckus, Huawey - prinieslo to mnohé prekvapenia aj pre dané firmy...
- 2015 - po niekoľkých rokoch sme vymenili core router za Cisco 6509E na VD, vybudovaný záložný 1Gbps rádiový spoj na Hliny
- 2016 - kompletne zrekonštruované priestory Klubu a serverovne na Hlinách, core switch na Hlinach je teraz Cisco 6506E, časť infraštruktúry sa presúva na Hliny; celá chrbticová sieť je už na 10Gbps, so záložnými linkami 2-4Gbps na každý blok

Keška zmenila umiestnenie, priamo na nu vidiet iba z jedneho okna kniznice.Internet klub je na prvom poschodí internátu z boku. (Je to to poschodie, kde sú klimatizácie - všetkých 8 okien.) Ak by mal niekto záujem, môžeme urobit nejakú miniexkurziu do sveta networkingu a ISP :) Prineste si vlastné pero!

Internet Klub organization was founded in 1998 by some students at University of Žilina as one of many "student" organizations. Their aim was to create a computer network for students living at University of Žilina colleges and to provide new learning opportunities and self-fulfillment for students through the connection to the Internet. With the time, the building of a network expanded to full administration and 24/7 monitoring of the network condition.
For eleven years of existence of this organization we have trained many skilled members, much of which are today a successful businessmans thanks to the access to technology used in Internet Klub.
Today, we have 9 active members and 12 candidates for membership. All mentioned are actively involved in its activities.
The aim of the organization was and is to allow students at University of Žilina colleges access to the Internet and to acquire, expand and apply their acquired knowledge and active engaging in activities of this student organization.
An integral part of oganization's life is constantly training its members in various fields - from software engineering to electrical engineering.
The main goals is to build a computer network at colleges, providing access to Internet for students, management and development of various new applications and other services related to network. Internet Klub currently manages a network and provides services to approximately 2,000 active users. Network and quantity of services provided is constantly expanding, which increases demand for used equipment. The individual rooms are connected with 100 Mbps Ethernet technology, but that is not final state. As soon as we connect all the rooms, we will start with upgrade for gigabit. The backbone is based on gigabit optical technology that is currently in the process of increasing the transmission speed for 2-4 gigabits and in the future there is a possibility to switch to 10 Gbps.
Internet Klub's activity is financed from the budget of student organizations, which reduces each year, respectively for the same package of finance each year, there are more and more new organizations. The funds to build and develop the network come from the University of Žilina donation account, to which only users of the Internet Klub services donates. Thus the development of the network is heavily dependent on our donors.
Latest events:
- 2014 - we are testing the enterprise WiFi networks from Cisco, Fortinet, Ruckus, Huawey - it brought many surprises also for the involved companies...
- 2015 - after several years we changed the core router to Cisco 6509E on VD, 1Gbps backup radio link to Hliny
- 2016 - complete reconstruction of Hliny Klub office and server room, core switch on Hliny changed to Cisco 6506E, part of the infrastructure moved to Hliny; all the backbone links are now 10Gbps, with 2-4Gbps backups to each block
