The first railway station opened at this location was in 1903 on what was called the New North Main Line. The New North Main Line was a double track line constructed as a joint project by the Great Central Railway and The Great Western Railway. The reason for the line was to give both companies improved access between London and Birmingham and thus provide an alternative to the major operator between these to two cities, namely the London and North Western Railway.
On 21st November 1948 the current Underground station was opened, thirteen years after the westerly expansion (from North Acton) of the Central Line had been announced. The original halt was on the New North Main Line was closed and the volume of traffic steady decreased which resulted in the singling of the double track in 1991 between Northolt Junction and Greenford. The New North Main Line is still in daily use; Chiltern Line operate one train service on weekday to London Paddington to maintain driver route knowledge, freight trains can be seen along with the occasional steam locomotive hauled special train.
The stated co-ordinates are close to the entrance of the station. Inside the station booking hall you will see a sign with details of local buses and other local information from which you need to gather information to find the cache.
