Kongens gate går fra Akershusstranda til Stortorvet ved Oslo Domkirke. Kongens gate fikk sitt navn i året 1624 - av den dansk-norske kong Christian IV. Samme med Akersgata er Kongens gate den eneste gaten som har beholdt det opprinnlige navnet fra byens anleggstid, hvor Kongens gate var en hovedgate i Christian IVs by. Cachen er lokalisert nær Akershus festning og festningsplassen. På denne plassen finner du "Wergelandseika" som er avbildet nedenfor, samt Nasjonalmonumentet for krigens ofre.

This cache is part of a geocaching game in Oslo, called Geopol. The cache series shows all streets in the norwegian version of the Monopoly game, with emphasis on historic places and how our city has changed over the years. Kongensgate is located in the old part of Oslo as you can see from some of the buildings here. The city centre was built here after a large fire in 1624. The danish-norwegian king Christian IV decided to rebuild the city north of the Akershus castle and fortress, and the city was named Christiania. The nice square in the picture below shows the Festningsplassen, which is part of the Akershus castle and fortress. It's only a few meters away from this cache. You can find a small gate and stairs of you walk some meters to the south ....
