North Salem has many wonderful trails and land parcels for the community to explore, mostly thanks to the North Salem Open Land Foundation. The Durand Nature Trail is probably my favorite, containing trails, loops, streams, bridges, nature sites, etc. Located behind the Town Hall Complex property on Rt 116 is the town library where you'll park.
NSOLF is dedicated to protecting open space to provide refuge for wildlife and educational and recreational opportunities for the community at large.The Foundation preserves these lands through an acquisition and conservation easement program.
The mission of the Foundation is the preservation of the character and natural beauty of the town of North Salem, NY and the area around it by establishing land areas free from exploitation, development, and deterioration and by maintaining the environmental integrity of the area.
The cache itself is along the trail of this 10 acre tract located directly behind the library. Additional waypoint is at N41 19.834 W073 35.839 marking the trail head. Well marked, but not visible from the library parking lot. Come round back!
FTF gift, swapables and tradeables accompany the log book where you're encouraged to write a happy thought for others to reflect on. Small sterilite container in an area thats not under tree cover so be patient, reception here is good. Remember to rehide well and continue walking the loop if time permits!
