Geocache Description:

Site des Hauteurs de Spicheren, la Grande Croix.

Née d'une crise diplomatique extrêmement brève, la guerre franco-allemande de 1870 scelle le destin du Second Empire. Le 6 août 1970, l'armée impériale subit une troisième défaite majeure sur les Hauteurs de Spicheren, défaite qui ouvre les portes de l'Alsace et de la Lorraine aux troupes allemandes.

C’est en 1934, après le retour de la région à la mère-patrie, que le Souvenir Français fit ériger, en l'honneur des soldats français morts le 6 août 1870, la Grande Croix de 15m qui domine le site.
