Ponte d'Este

A Ponte D'Este fica localizada na freguesia de Touguinhó e permite fazer a passagem do Rio que dá o nome à ponte, já muito próximo de onde este desagua no Rio Ave. Esta ponte, quase destruída, românica, que dava passagem apenas a peões, foi substituída no século XIX por uma outra (que herdou o nome da primitiva: Ponte d’Este) situada uns metros a poente.
É possível que esta passagem do Rio Este estivesse ao serviço da antiga via romana que seguia para Norte ao longo da costa (que derivava da Via Vetera após ter atravessado o Rioa Ave na Ponte D'Ave, mas as informações não são consensuais e por vezes, mesmo, contraditórias. Desconhece-se a data da sua edificação, pelo que não se pode afirmar se é anterior ou posterior à Ponte de Arcos (alguns quilómetros a montante).
Actualmente, a ponte está ao abandono ainda que tenha resistido corajosamente aos efeitos destruidores da corrente, que muitas vezes tem galgado margens e cobrindo-a por completo.
