NOTE: Due to the rising water levels, the portion of the trail that follows the lake shore is now flooded. The cache can still be reached by entering the exit end of the trail ( opposite side of the parking area ). Even going this way, be prepared to come across a wet area at certain times. I see that there now is a detour trail around the flooded portion so one can complete the loop.
Need to stretch your legs a bit? Then a hike on the Birch Forest Interpretive Trail on a peninsula into Kenosee Lake in the beautiful Moose Mountain Provincial Park maybe what you need. To get to the trail head, travel west on hiway 209 until you get to w102 20.540. Turn left there onto a gravel road and follow it to the end. It should be noted that the last half of this road badly needs more gravel so consider it not passable in wet conditions. It also is not maintained in winter. For the most part the trail is relatively level at between 2450 and 2500 foot elevation. A few little ups and downs and one larger hill, an 85 foot elevation climb, make it interesting. Watch for protruding roots along the trail as well as for the birds and animals that make this forest home. As you start in on the trail, it goes down to the lake shore. Be sure to watch for the directional arrow that turns you back into the forest and up the hill. The length of the trail is about a mile and a quarter. Remember park entry fees apply, at the time of this printing they are seven dollars for a day pass. The cache itself is a camoed pint sizes thermo jug. This cache only has room for a few small tradables.
