Kirchberg in Tirol
Kirchberg liegt auf 838 Meter Seehöhe und hat ca. 5300 Einwohner.
Schon von weitem sichtbar ist das Wahrzeichen Kirchbergs – die Kirche auf dem Berg!
Die Pfarrkirche zum heiligen Ulrich wurde 1511 erbaut und 1736 von Jakob Singer barockisiert.
Anfangs hieß das Dorf Sperten, was „Ort am Tannenbach“ bedeutete. Im 14. Jahrhundert wurde die Ortsbezeichnung auf Kirchberg geändert. Die „Kirche am Berg“ sollte ursprünglich im Zentrum des Dorfes gebaut werden. Doch kurz vor Abschluss der Dachdeckerarbeiten brachten Tauben die Dachschindeln hinauf auf den Berg. Die Kirchberger sahen darin ein Zeichen Gottes und erbauten die Kirche an genau dieser Stelle. Auch im Wappen von Kirchberg in Tirol wird die Kirche auf dem Berg dargestellt.

Kirchberg in Tirol
Kirchberg is a village at an elevation of 838 m above see level and has about 5300 habitants. From a distance you can see the village’s landmark – the church on the mountain. The church of the holy Ulrich was built in 1511 and has been changed in a baroque style by Jakob Singer in 1736. At the beginning the village was called Sperten, which means place at the fir-tree-creek. The name was changed into Kirchberg, which means “church on the mountain”, in the 14th Century. The church originally ought to be built in the centre of the village. Before the roof was covered pigeons carried some of the shingles up on the mountain. The villager of Kirchberg saw this as a sign from God and built the church at this place. Also in the coat of arms of Kirchberg in Tirol the church on the mountain is illustrated.
