Geocache Description:

Welcome to the 2009 MnGCA Fall Event!

The Fall 2009 Event Committee has been working very hard to bring you the MnGCA 2009 Fall Event and Elections. Meet some awesome cachers, find temp caches a slightly different way, and vote for the 2009-10 MnGCA Board!!

Who: This event is open to anyone who geocaches, thinks about geocaching, wishes they could geocache more often, and those who would like to learn!
What: An all-day socializing and geocaching event with an MnGCA meeting and election immediately after lunch.
When: Saturday, October 17, 2009
Where: Afton State Park, located about twenty minutes southeast of the Cities. Click here for the Afton State Park webpage and here for a Summer Trail Map. "Trails traverse remnant and restored prairies, wind down deep ravines and rise up to the grassy ridge tops and bluffs overlooking the scenic St. Croix River."
How Much: If you have an annual state park pass, nothing. If not, we'll do our best to negotiate a $3 daily group rate with the folks at the Afton State Park.
Why: Because events are fun and elections are necessary!!

Here are the activities we're planning for the day:
Choose Your Own Adventure Multi
Three coordinates will be published in the brochure. When you find the cache (at the set of coordinates you chose), inside that cache will be two additional coordinates. If the container is big enough, there will be swag as well (this might keep the kids interested in continuing). Enter the coordinates of your choice and hike on. Be sure to note where you've been so you don't double back!

We will also have all the coordinates available in a GPX file if you're not interested in finding the temps as a Multi; just let us know that you want them in a "traditional" fashion.

New This Year: The Twin Cities Geocaching Podcast!
We have asked Sir_ZMan to host a LIVE podcast at the event! See http://www.tcgcpc.com/ to play the latest podcast, listen to archived episodes and see some featured upcoming events!
Kid-Friendly Caches and Activities
We have asked some of our volunteers to hide kid-friendly caches and are asking anyone attending to folks to bring games and non-caching activities to play when they aren't on the trail. Finally, while we can't entertain your children during the meeting and elections, we will be putting together a gift bag of items that might help occupy your children. The swag bags will be for ages 1-6 and ages 7-12; when posting your "will attend" log, please let us know the ages of the children attending so we can ensure that everyone gets a bag.
Geocaching 101 booth
We're organizing a Geocaching 101 booth for those folks who are new to geocaching. We will have loaner GPS units on hand to lend out! This year, we'd like to assign designated "buddies" to help them use their GPS and find some of the caches. If you're willing to be a Companion Cacher, please let us know so we can pair you up with a newbie at the event.
Creative Cache Container Making Contest
Camo a container (or bring in a formerly-placed container) and submit it to win a prize! The cache needs to be constructed in such a way that it could actually be placed in the wild. Include a log book and write the cache name on it. We will assign you a number when you register so the submissions are anonymous. The "most creative" prize will be awarded during the "Awards and Door Prizes" time.

Camping:
We're renting the group camp site (as there are no individual sites). If you would like to camp at the event, the cost will be $10/site. I will be in contact with Afton about how many tents and cars we can have. Please contact meralgia for more details and for payment information.
