Nossa Senhora do Remédios junto à vila da Sertã no centro de Portugal acolheu Nuno Alvares Pereira antes das suas batalhas.

A localidade da Senhora dos Remédios fica no centro de Portugal no Concelho e freguesia da Sertã (Distrito de Castelo Branco, Beira Interior antigamente Beira Baixa - 6100) zona do Pinhal interior sul.

Nuno Álvares Pereira foi um grande chefe militar e um santo. Deve-se-lhe a batalha de Aljubarrota e ajudou a expulsar os espanhóis do território de Portugal.
Nasceu a 24 de Junho de 1360 em Cernache do Bonjardim, casou aos 16 anos e teve 3 filhos. A sua filha casou com um filho natural de Dom João I, Dom Afonso o primeiro Duque de Bragança.

O Bem-Aventurado Nuno de Santa Maria Pereira, 11° Santo português, morreu a 1 de Abril de 1431. Também se referencia como Nun' Álvares Pereira ou Beato Nuno ou simplesmente de Santa Maria.

O Papa Bento XVI canonizou Nuno Álvares Pereira a 26 de Abril de 2009.
