The geodetic datum origin of Japan is a point the standard to decide a geographical latitude and longitude in Japan.
It was set the center of the meridian circle of Tokyo Astronomical Observatory of The geodetic datum origin of Japan in 1892. Because a meridian circle collapsed by Kanto big earthquake of 1923, so a metal plate in the position of The geodetic datum origin of Japan and reach it afterwards today.

明治２５年に東京天文台の子午環の中心を日本経緯度原点と定めました。
その後、大正１２年の関東大地震により、子午環が崩壊したため、日本経緯度原点の位置に金属標を設置し、今日に至っています。
