Geocache Description:

You are standing in the middle of Christian 4's old naval port. Many mugglers. A small plastic container. Please don't take the stones. Their weight keeps the container there.

History
Take a look at the old moring rings from 16th century (55¤40.29.744 - 12¤34.50.999). If we were back in 1630 you would right now be swimming around in the seawater. You are standing in Christian IV's old naval port Tøjhushavnen where sailing ships at war were loaded with cannons, food etc.from the two long stock exchange buildings at each side. Through the window at 55¤40.498 - 12¤34.780 you can still see cannons (or enter the Tøjhus museum). Now filled up soil The Royal Library Gardens were designed in 1920 by landscape gardener Jens Peder Andersen and castle architect Thorvald Jørgensen. The Royal Library at the south end of the garden is now extended with The Black Diamond right next to the waterfront.

Statues and Sculptures
A 1918 bronze statue of Søren Kierkegaard by the sculptor Louis Hasselriis is found in the middle of the gardens. Kierkegaard appears absorbed in his own thoughts with his gaze directed towards a point on the other side of the wall where his fiancée, Regine Olsen, is said to have lived.

The Water Sculpture
In the summer of 1999 the Palaces and Properties Agency unveiled a brand new sculpture in the old gardens. The sculpture is an eight-metre-high copper column that rises from the middle of the garden pool and operates as a fountain. Water shoots up every hour on the hour. It was designed by sculptor Mogens Møller as a monument to the book and the written word.
