Geocache Description:

[A puzzle which will lead to a cache]

2 weeks ago I received a letter from a friend that I have not spoken to in years, I can't understand why he wrote to me but he asked for my help.
His letter stated, 'If I have not contacted you within 6 days of you receiving my letter then you must help me, leave me a sign at my location and I will know it is safe to return'

I have been researching day and night to try to find his location but cannot seem to figure out exactly where he his. In his letter he gave me 4 accounts of events that had happened in years gone by. Telling me that X-Marks the spot, X-Marks the spot... what's that meant to mean?

I researched into these four locations, reading various books and have used my gps to work out where I think they are. I have then contacted local experts on these books so that they can confirm the locations.

He told me that I am stupid if I try to visit him at location 1, 2, 3 and 4! If i tired this I would not find him here!!!

The location of this cache listing is for the place where he parked his car. (not where the cache is hidden) He kindly mailed me his keys so that I could remove it. I didn't think about this properly when I went to move his car as I drove mine there, moved his car to my house but then had to get a taxi to pick my car up! (I did think that he should have only parked here later on in the day when the field is not going to be used, I must tell him off)

I will tell you what I know, the accounts are as accurate as I can make them. I have shorted his accounts and figured out the four locations for you (but you do not and must not visit these locations) Using a map will help you figure out the GPS co-ords or a program like google-earth if you use it! OS-Map 137 has helped me a lot so far, you can also try TR-Map 256 (TR-Maps are hard to come by but are better than OS)

Point 1: N 51° 09.475 E 000° 48.603 - at this location 3 video tapes where found by James T Hunter 5 years ago. The video tapes contained footage of a group of film makers who decided to camp in the woods. No one knows if these video tapes are fake but apparently the last frames of the video shows the students in the basement of a house... (Verified by R Harding - local expert)

Point 2: N 51° 09.335 E 000° 48.780 - After reading the document 'strange histories by J. Wilde', I found out that this location was the site of the start of a religious group. They had 10 tents and a lot of food but apparently they got bored and went home after 1 week. (Verified by C Carding - local expert on religious cults)

Point 3: N 51° 09.302 E 000° 48.604 - this location used to contain a well, it was used by a local man for his water supply. He became so obsessed with it that he thought that other people would spoil it so he hid it. No one ever found it since. (Wells that have disappeared by M King 1810 p60. Verified by his great, great grandson)

Point 4: N 51° 09.509 E 000° 48.833 - This was the location where R R Reedman wrote the book 'why did they create RRR' Although this book was written in 1606, some copies can still be found in some Kent Libraries but under a different name and author. (Verified by the new author)

Expedition: Day 1

6 am - Decided to wake up early to see what can be done about this letter (I usually don't get up until 8 am so I am feeling quite tired..) Packed my ruck sack with the following items:

Oregon 300 GPS system, feature talkytoasteruk's maps (can't afford the OS maps at the moment)

Books - Why did they create RRR by R R Reedman, Wells that have disappeared by M King & Strange Histories by J. Wilde.

Maps - OS-Map 137 & TR-Map 256

Pen

Paper

Lunch Box with 2 packets of crisps, 2 chocolate bars and 2 ham + cheese sandwiches (2 of each, I don't have obsessive compulsive disorder)

Copy of the letter from himself

Spare batteries

I parked the car, waited for the GPS to get to a 8ft accuracy, walked towards the woods and wondered what the bank at the start of the footpath was built for (Send your answers on a note if you know)

I managed to find the Rippers cache (I know this is an important time and we must stay focused here but I lost my focus... I have told myself off) I must admit I was quite nervous at this point as to what to expect. As I followed the path I started to realise what 'x marks the spot means'. It was over grown and if I'm honest, it made me feel quite scared walking this way. (I thought I saw someone watching me) but I decided to keep going

Then it hit me.

I grabbed my OS Map, threw it on the ground. I grabbed a pen and a book. Using the book as a ruler and a pen. I Plotted the four locations on the map and drew a line from location 1 to location 2, and a line from location 3 to location 4! There it was, in front of my eyes!

X

Could the point where the lines cross be where the cache is hidden? I wasn't sure of it but I had to try...
