Welcome to Lyneham. I hope you enjoy the shops, cafes and restaurants in this tiny shopping district. The cache is in a busy area, so I recommend a visit late in the evening. Perhaps after the IGA has closed, but while Tilley's and The Front are still open. It will allow you to avoid the traffic, while still being able to stop for a coffee, giving you the opportunity to soak up the local atmosphere.
Please be careful when replacing the cache and don't push it in too far. On my first attempt to hide it, I dropped it around the back and needed to wait until much later in the evening and find a very long stick to retrieve it!
Tilley's, aka Tilley's Devine Cafe Gallery, is one nearby Canberra institution. It was named after Matilda 'Tilly' Devine, a mid-twentieth century gangster and madame from Sydney. Tilly's was established in 1984 and for its first two years of existence, it was a women's space. Men were allowed in only when accompanied by a woman. This rule was abandoned about two years later. Later Tilley's became a concert venue. You will still see a piano sitting on the stage in these theatrical surroundings, but the focus is now on the restaurant and cafe.
